Discover how you can Power Smart Buildings with PoE
OpenArch’s Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) lighting system facilitates individual lighting control, minimizing the impact on the CO2 balance. Utilizing Ethernet cables for connection, the system integrates seamlessly with existing LAN setups, delivering both data and operating voltage to office luminaires. This transforms each luminaire into a networked device, allowing occupants to personalize lighting using a user interface. Selected lighting preferences can be saved for easy recall, independent of the workplace location in the building. The precise data transmission is ensured by assigning each PoE luminaire its own IP address, enabling wireless communication with smartphones through coded light and integrated communication interfaces.
How does PoE LED lighting differ from AC-powered LED lighting?
DC-based PoE lighting differs significantly from AC-powered LED lighting in several key aspects. LED lights inherently require DC power for operation, leading to the necessity of a transformer in AC-powered LED fixtures to convert the power source to DC. This conversion process often incurs a 20 percent power loss, and the transformer itself can be both bulky and heat-emitting. PoE, on the other hand, utilizes common Ethernet cabling, enabling safe installation without the need for an electrician. This not only reduces installation costs but also accelerates the time to completion and allows for greater flexibility in fixture placement.
