UK teams have been volunteering in the local community
In line with Prysmian Group’s social ambition targets and with support from the organisation Volunteering Matters, teams from Bishopstoke and Washington have been volunteering their time to give back to their local communities.
The Bishopstoke team carried out sustainability maintenance along the Hamble River. The activities included removing large fallen trees from the river, as well as removing reeds and silt, which helped the fish refuge, and laying chicken wire for increased safety around barbed wire. The team also built three new benches for the area, contributing to the scenery.
Martin Siddal commented on his experience of the event: "I think the event was a success as there was a very good atmosphere within the group and we all worked well together to complete the tasks." I thoroughly enjoyed the day, and at the end of the morning it was satisfying to see the improvements we had made."
Meanwhile, Washington has also kicked off their volunteer programme by volunteering 8 hours across two days (the 2nd and 9th of November) in Elba Park. They took part in cutting back overgrown trees and bushes and extending and repairing gravel pathways.
Steven Spencer said: "It was very rewarding to be able to help out the local community. It was a good experience and would have been even more enjoyable if it had been done earlier in the year when it was a bit warmer. I look forward to doing something similar next year."
Following a two-year delay due to the pandemic, Prysmian Group is pleased to see colleagues coming together and getting involved in the volunteering initiative.
